Double Check Valve (DCVA) Backflow Testing & Repair | ASSE 1015

Double Check Valve Assemblies (DCVA / ASSE 1015) are the standard cross-connection containment barrier for commercial, institutional, and residential properties with low-to-moderate hazard profiles. Consisting of two independently acting, spring-loaded check valves housed in a single body with four test cocks and two shut-off valves, a DCVA prevents pollutants from reversing into the municipal potable main. We test, certify, and service DCVA units across the 8 Western NC corridors.

Engineering Standards & Diagnostic Protocol

ASSE 1015 Testing Protocol & Differential Pressure Verification

Each check valve must hold tight against backpressure and maintain a minimum of 1.0 PSI forward differential pressure. We isolate the assembly, attach our 5-valve differential test equipment, and systematically measure the holding strength of both check modules under simulated reverse flow conditions.

Underground Vault & Meter Pit Inspections

Unlike RPZ assemblies, DCVAs do not vent water to the atmosphere and can be installed inside underground concrete meter vaults and freeze-protected pits. Our technicians evaluate vault drainage, check for submerged test cocks, inspect shut-off ball valves for exercise and corrosion, and clear pit debris.

High Mountain Static Pressure Stabilization

Steep mountain topography across WNC frequently generates static line pressures exceeding 140 PSI in valley floors. We verify that upstream pressure reducing valves (PRVs) protect the DCVA springs and rubber seals from premature hydraulic fatigue and seal extrusion.

Check Module Rebuilding & Spring Replacement

When check disc rubber suffers compression set or mineral encrustation, we replace the internal cam-check or poppet assemblies with factory-authorized rebuild kits for Ames 2000B, Watts 007/709, and Apollo DC4A series valves.

Need Official Certification for this Assembly?

Our technicians arrive with calibrated 5-valve test equipment and file your official compliance report directly with your municipal water purveyor.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where are Double Check Valve Assemblies typically required in WNC?

DCVAs are commonly required on domestic main line containment meters for multi-tenant commercial buildings, retail shopping plazas, apartment complexes, restaurants without high-risk equipment, and standard non-chemical fire sprinkler systems.

Can a DCVA be installed vertically?

Yes, certain DCVA models are approved for vertical-up or vertical-down flow orientations, provided the specific valve has been laboratory tested and listed for vertical installation by ASSE or USC-FCCCHR. We ensure all orientations comply with local plumbing inspection codes.

How long do the internal check valve components last?

Under typical Western North Carolina municipal water conditions, internal rubber discs and springs last 4 to 7 years. However, coarse mountain silt or acidic water can accelerate seal wear, which is why annual testing is mandatory.
